Dr. Desai was born and raised in southeast Michigan. He completed his undergraduate education at the University of Michigan where he majored in industrial and operations engineering and graduated with Magna Cum Laude honors. From there, he went to medical school at New York Medical College and graduated in the top of his class and was selected to join the National Medical Honors Society Alpha Omega Alpha. He completed his internal medicine residency at UCLA Medical Center Westwood. He did his cardiology fellowship at the University of Southern California and was selected as the Cardiology Fellow of the Year. Dr. Desai received his interventional cardiology training at the world-famous William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan where he performed over 550 coronary artery interventions. Dr. Desai is board certified in internal medicine, cardiology, interventional cardiology, echocardiography and nuclear cardiology. He performs all ranges of coronary artery interventions from balloon angioplasty, stent placement and atherectomy to chronic total occlusion interventions. Dr. Desai also performs peripheral artery interventions, IVC filter placement and percutaneous atrial septal defect closures. Dr. Desai performed the first transaortic valve replacement (TAVR) in Kern County.
